About St Mary's

St Mary's Church Reopening

Public worship at St Mary's will be resuming on Sunday July 26th with a Eucharist at 9:30 am alongside our online worship. For a while at least worship in church will be very different from what we have been used to. We want everyone to feel comfortable attending church by making it as safe an environment as possible.

We are currently under Tier Two restrictions which means that there must be no social interaction between different households indoors- this includes the church before and after the service.

In brief...
• Please book first for the service.
• Face coverings should be worn and 2 metres social distancing maintained.
• Seating will be allocated and socially distanced
• A one way system will be operating in the church.

In more detail...

Please observe the following guidelines:

  • Make sure you have booked for the service first either by emailing 930@stmarysbeddington.org.uk or calling and leaving a message on 020 8669 9395.
  • You must provide us details of how to contact you should this become necessary. These will be kept for 21 days.
  • Volunteers will be at church to help you with the new guidelines. Staff and volunteers will be wearing face coverings, gloves and face visors.
  • Please queue outside the church for admittance, keeping two metres apart at all times.
  • Your temperature will be checked before entering the building.
  • Please use the available hand sanitiser on entering and leaving the church and at other times if necessary.
  • You should wear a face covering at all times in church, except for young children. The covering can be temporarily removed in order to take communion.
  • The service will last around 30 minutes, and there will be no singing or sermon. No service booklets will be provided and you are asked to say responses quietly.
  • Seating will be socially distanced- at least two metres apart. You will be allocated a seat. Household groups may sit together closer than two metres.
  • A one-way system will be in place for moving around the church. There will be one entrance ('South porch') and one exit ('West door'). If you need step free access to the building this will be available via the west door.
  • A collection will not be taken during the service but you can leave your offering
  • Both church doors will be open immediately before and after the service to increase ventilation. You may wish to bring extra clothing to wear should you feel cold.
  • Because of risks to users and the need for extra sanitising, toilets will be available only in an emergency. Please make sure you go before setting off!
  • Refreshments will not be served after the service and we will leave the church immediately the service ends so volunteers can proceed with cleaning. Please await directions on leaving the church at the end of the service.
  • No entry will be permitted after 9:30.
  • Our ministers will not be available for one to one conversations before or after the service- please telephone if you need to talk.
  • If you are at high risk from coronavirus (i.e. extremely clinically vulnerable to COVID-19) you will have been advised by the NHS to shield and though you may now meet others outside you must not attend indoor worship. Those who are at moderate risk are advised to stay home as much as possible.

If you are feeling unwell or if you or a member of your household is feeling unwell or has a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell you must not come to church.
